The cane crushing season has rolled out across the Wide Bay and Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has urged motorists to watch out for cane trains.

Trains will be operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week from Monday the 1st of July through to November, while they will have a daylight presence this week.

Mr Bennett said it’s vital motorists and pedestrians are aware of their surroundings when travelling on or near rail crossings.

“The number one message we need to remember is to Stay Alert,” he said.

“The Train Safety message should not be taken lightly.

“Sadly in previous years, our community has suffered terrible consequences as a result of lapsed concentration.

“So this year, let’s all spread the train safety message far and wide and Stop, Look and Listen.

“Let’s all remember to obey the flashing lights, give way at road crossings and become familiar with cane train crossings in our area.”
