Member for Burnett, Stephen Bennett is encouraging the local tourism industry to have they say through a short online survey on the DestinationQ website.

Following a series of workshops looking at the long-term direction of Queensland’s tourism industry on the Sunshine Coast last week, industry feedback is sought to provide a framework for a 20-year plan for Queensland tourism.

Mr Bennett said themes strongly emerging from the workshops included the role of the community as ambassadors for tourism, the importance of excellent customer service, and the role of nature and our authentic Australian identity in setting Queensland apart on the world stage. Fourteen workshops have been held across the State to seek the perspectives of around 430 tourism operators and industry representatives. Discussions centred on how tourism could be more competitive and successful in the long term. New research commissioned by the State Government from CSIRO was presented about the trends shaping the industry over the next 20 years.

“The Newman Government is committed to working with industry to plan and secure the future of tourism in Queensland” Mr Bennett said. “This partnership is integral in helping us reach our goal of doubling annual overnight visitor expenditure from $15 billion to $30 billion by 2020.” “Our tourism industry is vital to Bundaberg and the Burnett’s economy.

“That’s why it’s so important we have the industry involved in developing and delivering the plan. “Industry and government are partnering to build this plan from the ground up.  It’s something industry must be engaged in and be proud of.
