Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett is calling on local anglers to have their say on the proposed amendments to the Fisheries Regulation, before it’s too late.

Mr Bennett said it’s vital local residents provide their feedback now with less than a week left of public consultation on the discussion paper.

“Unfortunately since the release of this paper, alarm bells have been ringing up and down the coast,” he said.

“It’s disappointing to see the Labor Government push ahead with slashing fishing quotas.

“Our local anglers have a right to access their share of a public resource in the ocean by either fishing themselves or buying seafood caught by commercial fishers.

“That is why it’s vital we speak up now on these reforms and make our voice heard.”

You can view the online survey at www.fisheries.qld.gov.au, provide written feedback or request a call back from the DAF call centre.

Submissions close July 19.
