The Apple Tree Creek Rodeo will receive a welcome funding injection of almost $18,000 thanks to the latest round of the Queensland Government’s Gambling Community Benefit Fund.
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett, who advocated on behalf of the show society for the funds, made the announcement this week.
Mr Bennett said the grant would allow for much-needed new and improved infrastructure at the Apple Tree Creek Rodeo Grounds to significantly improve safety.
“Patrons of the rodeo can expect to see significant safety measures implemented at the grounds such as the installation of brand new bucking chutes and several gates and panels of cattle fencing,” he said.
“These upgrades will not only allow for safer events, but it will open up opportunities for the society to run additional rodeo or team penning events throughout the year which will provide an additional economic boost to the community.
“These funds will help the society along in their efforts to better utilise the grounds and ensure they are enjoyed by visitors and locals alike for years to come.”
Mr Bennett praised the show society for its tireless efforts in organising local events and ensuring their continued popularity and success.
Isis District Pastoral Agricultural and Industrial Society president Peter Warren welcomed the news.
“For the show society, it means a great deal… to get this grant is just terrific,” Mr Warren said.
“It’s been a lot of years since something’s been done at the creek grounds. We try to maintain the grounds, but it’s hard to keep up with the maintenance.”
Mr Warren said it was top priority to ensure the safety of rodeo participants.
“The society has been proactive in ensuring the safety of riders, so now with all this new gear it will really help upgrade that safety,” he said.
“A big thank you to Stephen Bennett for helping us out to get the grant. The
recommendation he gave us was really good… without the likes of Stephen Bennett, it’s hard to get these grants.”
