Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has played host to a special morning tea to honour the region’s professional and volunteer firefighters.
Mr Bennett said the morning tea was an opportunity to thank urban, auxiliary and rural firefighters for the courageous work they do throughout the year.
“The 28th marked the last day of summer but unfortunately yesterday didn’t mark the end of Australia’s bushfires.
“Over the last six months our fireys have been put to the test. Unforgiving temperatures and wind conditions have seen Queensland and the Burnett region experience some of the worst fires in our history.
“Each and every time a blaze ignites, our dedicated firefighters are there to protect lives and properties,” he said.
“They risk their lives to save others and every time they don their uniforms they put duty above all else.
They are an important part of our community and truly are our unsung heroes.
“Showing our support to our firies is important to let them know that we don’t take them for granted and that we do acknowledge the sacrifices they make to ensure we are all safe.”
Thank You Fireys Day encouraged people across the country to honour and thank our brave and courageous fire fighters.
Local firefighters were welcomed to the complimentary morning where they relaxed and unwound with a coffee and a cake.
