Teachers are fed up with Labor’s broken promises with almost 150 local teachers resigning in just 18 months.
New data has revealed 144 teachers across Bundaberg, Gladstone and the Fraser Coast handed in their resignations between January 2022 to June 2023. *
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said it’s clear they’re not getting the support and respect they need and deserve.
“Our teachers have got to be some of the most patient, caring and resourceful people I’ve met,” said Mr Bennett.
“They hold a huge responsibility in educating our children but they’re seeing very little backing from the State Labor Government.
“The Palaszczuk Government well and truly broke their election promise to grow the teacher workforce, instead teachers are walking away.
“They’re being undervalued and overworked and have simply had enough.
“This state government has comprehensively failed to deliver a teacher workforce strategy that attracts and retains teachers to deliver the world-class education Queensland children deserve.
“It’s clear they’re plugging the gaps by issuing more than 600 permission to teach (PTT) approvals across Queensland this year alone. **
“This is a band aid solution; an attempt to hide yet another Labor failure.
“Our hard-working teachers are now expected to teach the teachers as well as our children!
“The exponential increase in non-registered teachers is a result of poor planning from a government in chaos and crisis.”
