THERE are probably many people living in our community who at one stage or another have been touched by the devastating effects of drug use.
Whether it’s a son, daughter, brother, sister, partner, friend, aunty or uncle – drugs don’t discriminate.
Or maybe you have been the victim of a crime committed by a drug user?
Ice use in regional and remote communities has increased alarmingly in recent years.
We need a targeted, comprehensive plan, which complements the National Ice Action Plan to tackle this issue and take ice off our streets
The LNP has a solid record of tackling drug use in Queensland through law and order measures such as policing and stronger penalties for offenders, and addiction treatment services that work.
But we can always do more.
The LNP recently released its ‘Taking ICE off Our Streets’ initiative which we will take to the next state election.
The LNP is fully committed to ridding our community from the scourge of this drug which is killing our youth.
An LNP government will implement a comprehensive, five-point action plan to take ice off our streets.
Our plan includes dobbing in a dealer, keeping bikie clubhouses closed, delivering drug addiction services, law enforcement co-operation with state and commonwealth agencies and increased prevention through community awareness programs targeting high-risk people.
Locally I see the need for a rehabilitation centre in our region and we must look at implementing these important long-term solutions if we are to win the war on drugs.
Drug use is an issue everyone in our community should be concerned with, before it becomes too late.
