The LNP has ramped up pressure on the Palaszczuk Government to introduce laws that would cut petrol prices for Wide Bay and Burnett motorists.
On a visit to Bundaberg today, LNP Shadow Energy Minister Michael Hart and Burnett MP Stephen Bennett once again called on Annastacia Palaszczuk to put politics aside and adopt the LNP’s policy of real-time fuel price monitoring.
“Motorists in Bundaberg, Maryborough and Hervey Bay are still paying far too much for fuel and yet Labor refuses to introduce a simple system that has proven to cut petrol prices in other states,” Mr Hart said.
“Real-time fuel price monitoring works by making it law for fuel companies to publish daily prices, allowing motorists to vote with their feet and support the servos that offer the cheapest fuel.
“NSW motorists are saving an average $6 per tank of fuel and hundreds of dollars a year thanks to real-time price monitoring but Annastacia Palaszczuk is refusing to take action to cut Queensland fuel prices.”
LNP Member for Burnett, Stephen Bennett said the LNP’s policy would increase competition and lower prices.
“Motorists in our region are paying over 132 cents per litre for fuel.
“I’d call that being ripped off on a daily basis and fuel companies need to be more accountable,” Mr Bennett said.
“The LNP understands Queenslanders are already struggling with their household budgets and high fuel prices are yet another hit to the hip pocket.
“Real time fuel price monitoring is a common-sense solution that has worked in New South Wales and is backed by the RACQ and NRMA.
“The LNP has the solution – Labor just needs to get on and make it happen.”
