Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has hand-delivered a brand new rescue board to the Moore Park Surf Life Saving Club to assist in the club’s training and rescue operations.
Mr Bennett said he donated the rescue board, valued at $1800, in recognition of the club’s service to the community.
“As a volunteer organisation under increasing demands from a growing population, surf lifesavers are constantly in need of extra life-saving equipment and I am pleased to be able to support them with donations such as rescue boards,” Mr Bennett said.
“When you add up the hundreds of patrol hours these dedicated individuals put into their clubs to protect the many tourists and locals who flock to our beaches, you realise the intense level of commitment they have to the surf lifesaving movement.
“I value the vital community service these wonderful volunteers provide along our coastline to keep our beachgoers safe and this is a small way of saying thank you on behalf of the community.”
Mr Bennett said surf lifesaving has a deep history in the Bundaberg and Burnett region and is an integral part of our community.
“What would we do without the passionate and dedicated Surf Life Savers and volunteers that support our surf clubs?”
During the past year the Moore Park Surf Life Saving Club performed over 2,700 patrol hours and 300 preventative actions to protect the lives of roughly 8,000 visitors who hit the local beach.
Club president Leigh Schuch thanked Mr Bennett for the donation of the rescue board, which she said would be integral for training and patrol operations.
“We appreciate the very kind donation and gesture. These boards are quite expensive and a vital piece of rescue equipment,” Mrs Schuch said.
