To mark the start of Queensland’s storm season, Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett is giving locals the chance to win a storm kit.

Mr Bennett said emergency kits were a vital step in preparing for storms.

“The storm season is upon us and at this time it’s important to be prepared should the worse of summer hit,” he said.

“The weather is out of our control, but we can control how we prepare for it and how to respond.

“Every home should have a fully stocked storm emergency kit ready to go and stored in a safe, accessible place.”

Mr Bennett said a storm kit should include essential items including a battery operated radio, torch and spare batteries, a first aid kit, can opener, tinned and other non-perishable food supplies, bottled water and medications.

“I urge every household to plan ahead and take some simple steps to keep your family safe this summer.”

Mr Bennett said besides preparing an emergency kit, residents should create a home emergency plan, keep a list of emergency numbers and clean up the backyard.
