Take the Plunge Community Café is on a mission to make Christmas a little brighter for locals doing it tough this year.
In the lead up to Christmas, the community café has erected a Christmas ‘Give and Take’ tree.
Over the past few weeks the tree has rapidly collected presents thanks to the generosity of locals.
Take the Plunge café co-owner Beth Boorer said they had been overwhelmed by the support for their Give and Take Christmas tree initiative and thanked the community for helping to stock their tree.
“The purpose of the Give and Take Tree is to help those who might struggle to buy that extra, unexpected gift and for those who would be unable to buy any gifts due to financial pressure,” she said.
“Thanks to the generosity of the customers at Take the Plunge Community Cafe, we now have many gifts under our tree.”
Ms Boorer said there was only one thing left to do now – ensure people in need received the gifts.
“Our hope is that we can help in a small way, to relieve some of the pressure on families during this already stressful time and we look forward to seeing people taking from under our tree,” she said.
“We have gifts to suit all ages from child up to adult to older people… Gifts have been given for Mums, Dads, kids, and there is even one there for the family dog.”
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett congratulated Take the Plunge for the initiative.
“The fantastic team at Take the Plunge Community Café is making a difference to the lives of locals,” Mr Bennett said.
“As the festive season gets underway, it’s great to see our community pull together to support one another.
“If your family’s budget is stretched this Christmas, it’s a great opportunity to visit the friendly café, relax and choose a gift to take home.”
