connecting young queenslandersYoung people in the Burnett will have fresh new ways to find out about learning opportunities, services and support via the Newman Government’s newly released Queensland Youth Strategy.

Local Member for Burnett, Stephen Bennett said connecting with young people was a whole of government commitment.

“We want our young people in the Burnett to have the support they need to reach their full potential and lead healthy and fulfilling lives; this strategy is just one way of doing that,” Mr Bennett said.

“With almost 590,000 young people aged 12 to 21 living in Queensland, we want to make sure we are delivering the right services and information in the right locations, at the right time, to the young people who need it most.”

The strategy’s six key areas of connection for young people are:

  • families and friends and social networks
  • education, training and jobs
  • health and wellbeing
  • community participation and volunteering
  • access to supports and services
  • arts and culture

Communities Minister Tracy Davis said the Queensland Youth Strategy was brimming with good ideas, with more than 100 actions and initiatives to be delivered across government.

“The youth strategy outlines how government will connect young people to their communities and non-government organisations that will make positive differences in their lives,” Ms Davis said.

“The Newman Government has recognised that every aspect of a young person’s life is connected and we want the best start for all youth in Queensland.

“The Youth Strategy provides a framework for engaging and connecting young people to all aspects of their community, so that the next generation can be successful and active members of society.”
