Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett is encouraging locals to step up to a challenge by joining him in walking 10,000 steps every day.

From tomorrow, Mr Bennett will join colleagues on a virtual walk from Port Douglas to Hobart, by walking at least 10,000 steps each day and logging the steps through an online website until the challenge is complete.

Mr Bennett said the 10,000 Steps website enables users to access interactive online features to create virtual individual and team challenges, record steps and physical activity, and monitor progress.

“It’s a really easy and effective way to motivate yourself and others to become more active as part of your everyday living,” he said.

“Spring is almost upon us, and what better time to get out in the sunshine and get some exercise.

“We are fortunate to have some lovely parks and beaches in the Bundaberg and Burnett region – why not get out and about and enjoy them, and keep fit and healthy at the same time.

“Walking more, whether it’s for work or leisure, is an easy way to be more active without trying too hard.

“Walking 10,000 steps a day can significantly improve your health, and it’s a gentle form of exercise that most people can do, so there’s really no excuses.”

Mr Bennett encouraged workplaces and individuals to get involved and sign up here

“Spur on your loved ones, friends and colleagues to lead healthier lives.”
