“Today we have seen the Premier visit Bundaberg to renounce the Large Air Tanker taking up residence here for another three months.
I was thrilled to see the LAT return to the region in August and I welcome the partnership with the Victorian Government that will see it fly across the state for four more years.
Moving forward it’s vital the State Labor Government learns from their mistakes to ensure bureaucracy does not get in the way and we never see another preventable disaster that was the 2020 Fraser/K’gari Island bushfire.
We cannot afford for these great resources to be underutilized during our bushfire season.
In 2020 the LAT sat idle on the Bundaberg runway for days before it was finally deployed to the world heritage-listed island.
Today it’s important we see all the recommendations of the IGEM report implemented and critical mitigation activities undertaken to safeguard the Queensland community.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to be prepared for Bushfire season.
Queensland’s season traditionally runs from July until October, but as we know all too well, bushfires can occur at any time.
A well-prepared home is easier to defend and reduces the risk to surrounding properties.
Now’s the time to ensure we’ve tidied vegetation, have easy access for our firies onto our properties and have a contingency plan.”
