Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has welcomed the approval of a $1.2 billion Hummock Hill Island project.

“As the local MP, I can see many benefits that this development will bring to the region.

“The region is crying out for more jobs and this project will deliver 190 construction jobs per year over 17 years.

“Our region can also expect a boost in our local economy with the project forecast to provide further benefit to our tourism industry and support up to 700 ongoing operational jobs.

“The Coordinator-General’s approval does not come without some very strict conditions with robust environmental protections.

“The developers must abide by 45 conditions following lengthy considerations of everyone’s views.

“The entire community should be proud of this project that’s set to include tourist accommodation, holiday units and camping grounds for about 2700 people.

“The plans also include shops, a golf course, airstrip, indigenous cultural centres and a plant nursery and is something I have been fighting and pushing for for quite some time.

“The project will cater to the growing number of national and international tourists that visit nearby Lady Musgrave Island and is set to start construction in 2020.”
