Relief is on the way for renters across the Bundaberg region under the LNP’s plan to subsidise solar panels on rental properties.
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said it’s all about finding ways to drive down cost of living pressures.
“The Supercharge Solar for Renters plan will make sure that the benefit of solar flows directly into the pockets of renters,” said Mr Bennett.
“It’s also designed to incentivise eligible homeowners who would benefit from the long-term investment of solar on their property.”
The plan will provide grants of up to $3,500 toward the installation of solar panels on rental homes and is expected to save the average rental household over $700 per year on power bills.
Mr Bennett said with power bills skyrocketing by almost 20% just last year, every saving counts.
“The rental crisis and cost of living crisis is hurting local families,” he said.
“Parents shouldn’t have to choose between paying their bills and putting food on the table.
“Residents in retirement villages across the Burnett shouldn’t have to turn their aircon off in the sweltering heat because they can’t afford it anymore.
“The longer Labor are in power the worse Queensland’s cost of living crisis gets and only the LNP has the right priorities for Queensland’s future.
“This program could help 1000’s of people; it’s a win win situation.
“A trial was done in 2019 but was cut by Labor, despite it having broad support from industry and renters.
“This program has real savings in the hundreds of dollars to renters.
“It’s practical, it’s long-term and it just makes sense.”
