Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has reignited the fight to rehabilitate Moneys Creek in Bargara in Queensland Parliament.

Hundreds of fish deaths last month brought the issue back into focus with the horrific sight and stench causing massive community angst.

Mr Bennett said the environmental embarrassment has been plaguing Bargara residents for too long.

“This issue has been ignored for decades, it’s been a long and drawn-out disaster that needs to end,” he said.

“To date, the State Labor Government has passed the buck and placed blame on other levels of government and private enterprise. *

“I made a commitment during the last election that the LNP would invest $300,000 towards its rehabilitation.

“Sadly, the State Labor Government failed to honour this commitment.

“I acknowledge it’s a detailed and difficult issue, but not doing anything is simply not good enough.”

Mr Bennett tabled a Question on Notice to the Minister for Environment last week. **

With reference to the ongoing fish deaths, water quality and algal bloom problems at Money’s Creek at Bargara in my electorate—

Will the Minister advise (a) what funding the Minister is planning to allocate for the rehabilitation of Money’s Creek and (b) when and to whom, will funding be made available?

The Minister has 30 days to respond.
