Local Member of Parliament Stephen Bennett today applauded staff of the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service (HHS) for their role in meeting increased health activity.
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said every year the local health services were seeing more Queenslanders present to emergency departments, more patients admitted to our hospitals and more patients referred to outpatient services.
“Our local hospitals have seen an extra 8,382 patients admitted over the 2013-14 financial year, and an extra 2,195 people have walked through the door to access our local accident and emergency services,” Mr Bennett said.
Mr Bennett said the figures presented a similar story for outpatient services provided to patients across Queensland.
“Compared to Labor, we have recorded an 8.4 per cent increase in the delivery of outpatient services and a total of 4.44 million patients in 2013–14,” he said.
“These are significant examples of the increased demand and activity our hospitals are faced with and their continued efforts to reduce waiting lists and meet targets during this period are outstanding.”
“Our local Hospital and Health Service is at the forefront of meeting this demand, and as part of the LNP’s strong plan to revitalise Queensland Health has delivered a significant increase in the front line services being delivered to local residents,” Mr Bennett said.
Mr Bennett said the government was committed to meeting the needs of the Queensland community and providing appropriate healthcare in a timely manner.
