Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett is encouraging Bundaberg and Burnett community groups to apply for funding through the state government’s Queensland Day Sponsorship Program.
Mr Bennett said applications for sponsorship of up to $10,000 are now being accepted for events to be held to celebrate Queensland Day around June 6, 2017.
“Queensland Day is an annual celebration to mark Queensland’s official separation from New South Wales on 6 June 1859,” Mr Bennett said.
“It provides an opportunity for Queenslanders to come together to celebrate the proud histories and traditions that make our state so special.”
He said the program encourages Queenslanders to celebrate Queensland Day in a way that reflects the unique culture, heritage and aspirations of their communities.
“Each year, right across the state, Queenslanders mark the annual celebration on June 6, by hosting barbeques, family fun days, festivals, street parades and unique events in their communities,” he said.
“I am encouraging local community groups in the Bundaberg and Burnett region to plan ahead for next year’s celebrations and host a Queensland themed event that will inspire community involvement.”
Mr Bennett said community events hoping to secure funding through the sponsorship program must demonstrate that their event raises community awareness of Queensland Day, encourages community participation and engagement, and contributes to a state-wide program of diverse, inclusive and innovative community events and initiatives.
“The event must also promote social, cultural and economic benefits to the community and showcase local or Queensland entertainers, produce or icons,” he said.
Applications close on September 9 2016.
