The Burnett community has banded together to rename the Isis River Bridge after a former member for Hinkler.
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said he was delighted to see support from residents to rename the bridge the “Paul Neville Bridge”.
“This is about publicly and formally recognising the long and distinguished service of former Federal MP Mr Paul Neville OAM,” he said.
“Mr Neville represented the Division of Hinkler for twenty years until his death earlier this year and he was widely respected by all sides of politics.
“He is remembered for his passion for local communities, regional communications, the arts and his complete dedication to his work.
“I’m delighted to be able to support our principal petitioner Brian Courtice, another former local member, and a great one at that, in his petition to see the bridge renamed.
“We hope that this will properly acknowledge the significant contribution of Mr Paul Neville OAM, and see him remembered for his service for many years to come.”
The Isis River Bridge is a road bridge over the Isis River south of Childers that was opened on 12 August 2011 and was jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments.
