Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has launched a petition to see the Innes Park and Coral Cove Foreshore overhauled. *
Mr Bennett said ‘let’s make it happen’ is the 2022 moto, so he’s hitting the ground running.
“Works are kicking off soon to remove the Innes Park boat ramp off Barolin Esplanade, so what better opportunity to plan and design a foreshore redevelopment!” he said.
“For too long the Innes Park and Coral Cove coastlines have been put on the backburner, now’s the time to fight for it to be upgraded.
“We’re calling on the State Government to commit to do all within its power to support the Bundaberg Regional Council, to develop a staged master planned redevelopment of the Innes Park and Coral Cove foreshore that reflects the wants and needs of the community.
“Over the years there have been multiple requests for better access to swimming areas, better BBQ area, better paths and more amenities.
“It’s vital this redevelopment is conducted in multiple stages and from the ground up.
“That’s why I’ll also be sending out a survey to gather information directly from the community about what it is they would like to see along the foreshore.
“The DL’s will be in letter boxes next week.
“This year is all about cutting through the red tape and making things happen.
Community Advocate Cynthia Hoogstraten said the foreshore area is popular with families and it’s time the community came together to discuss the future vision for the region.
“With the boat ramp being demolished, the community needs safe access to the beach,” said Ms Hoogstraten.
“While there have been suggestions of a viewing platform as well.
“I am fortunate to call Innes Park home and am keen to hear the community’s views so that together we can support positive improvements.
“Other ideas could include a community hall, improvements in parking and beautification of the foreshore, improvements in amenities, shower runoff on the path, needle disposal unit, rain protection in one of the pavilions and outdoor covered areas attached to the community hall.
A community consultation to discuss the removal of the boat ramp and a future Innes Park and Coral Cove foreshore redevelopment will be held this Saturday the 22nd under the gazebo near the boat ramp at 8am.
All are welcome to attend.
