Three local politicians have donned their slippers, flannelettes and night caps to celebrate 15 years of the Pyjama Foundation.
Members for Burnett Stephen Bennett, Member for Bundaberg David Batt and Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt have called on the community to swap their suits for dressing gowns for Pyjama Day tomorrow.
“For more than a decade The Pyjama Foundation has been working with children in foster care in our region, nurturing them and inspiring them with a love of learning,” Mr Bennett said.
“Tomorrow is about raising those much needed funds for the foundation in style, so they can continue their life-changing work in the community.
Member for Bundaberg David Batt said wearing PJs is a fun way to raise money and awareness for an important cause.
“Pyjama Day is all about supporting little kids with big dreams,” Mr Batt said.
Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt said programs that improved children’s literacy and learning were critical.
“Children need support and encouragement to get a love of literacy so that they can chart their own courses into the future. Being able to read unlocks so many opportunities. So I urge the community to support Pyjama Day to ensure kids in foster care reap the same rewards we have,” Mr Pitt said.
The Pyjama Foundation Founder and CEO Bronwyn Sheehan said this year was going to be biggest yet for the key fundriaser.
“The communities support enables us to continue our work changing the lives of the more than 1400 children in care we currently support,” she said.
“With statistics showing more than 90% of children care will fall below the average reading level by age 7, this service has never been more important.”
