Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett is calling on the Palaszczuk Government to come clean on the Paradise Dam.
It’s following rumours circulating about the structural problems of the dam after a community reference group meeting.
Mr Bennett said the people of Bundaberg and the Burnett have a right to know.
“For over a month, our region has been anxiously awaiting any news from the Palaszczuk Government on the Paradise Dam and why the decided to release 105,000 ML of water,” he said.
“Since the announcement on September 24, we have heard nothing tangible or concrete.
“But today we’re suddenly hearing reports that there are three major problems with the dam.
“This is completely unacceptable; to have these reports surreptitiously spread around the town is a slap in the face for everyone in the region.
“We need clear answers today and the Labor Government needs to come clean on this debacle.
“What is the plan? What do they know? And why haven’t they told us?
“I have so many questions, including around the lack of an environmental impact statement, the lack of a public technical report and the lack of safety report for recreational vessels.
“However today I have a new question to add to the growing list, why are they supposedly leaking information and not telling us straight?”
“The longer we wait, the worse it gets, that’s why I’m renewing my calls for a full Parliamentary Inquiry into the design and construction of Paradise Dam.
