New vehicle exemptions for the safe movement of large agricultural vehicles on roads around the Bundaberg and Burnett region has been welcomed by member for Burnett Stephen Bennett.
Mr Bennett said the roll out of the new exemption notice on heavy vehicle routes for vehicles up to four metres in width will be beneficial to farmers and improve productivity.
“The initiative will make life a lot easier for farmers with large agricultural vehicles to move on roads and save them time and money through reduced paperwork,” he said.
“It’s a good outcome for those involved in the agriculture sector and will provide more flexibility, without compromising the safety of all road users.”
Vehicles will be restricted to daytime travel and must meet new conditions including the use of a pilot vehicle and portable signs to warn other road users in advance while travelling on the Bruce Highway.
The new measures commenced on September 1, 2016.
