Bundaberg motorists have been stalled when it comes to booking a driving test with waits of up to 6 weeks.
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said a number of people have approached his office over concerns about the long waits at the Transport and Main Road’s Bundaberg Customer Service Centre.
“We know that the local TMR Service Centre is under pressure due to the significant population growth in the area during COVID,” he said.
“It’s vital the centre has the resources and staff to keep up with the demand which is why I have asked a Question on Notice to the Minister for Transport and Main Roads. *
“This State Government has a shocking track record when it comes to listening to anyone outside the Southeast corner, that’s why it’s important we raise these issues to ensure our region gets what we deserve.”
Mr Bennett tabled the following Question on Notice to the Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey on Tuesday:
Transport and Main Road’s Bundaberg Customer Service Centre conducts driving tests for a local population that has increased significantly during COVID. Is the Minister aware of long wait lists of up to six weeks for drivers trying to book a driving test? Can the Minister advise the number of full time equivalent driving test staff working at the Bundaberg Customer Service and the number of driving tests conducted each week since June 2021? Can the Minister confirm that residents from surrounding areas as far away as Gympie, Hervey Bay, Childers and Gin Gin are booking driving tests at the Bundaberg Customer Service Centre, adding pressure to the wait list for driving tests?
Minister Bailey must provide a written answer to the parliament within 30 calendar days.
