The campaign for a new surf lifesaving clubhouse at Moore Park Beach has been revived, with Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett putting extra pressure back on the Public Works Minister on behalf of the community.

Moore Park Surf Life Saving Club’s clubhouse was damaged beyond repair during significant weather events in 2010 and 2013, and demolition was the only solution.

Mr Bennett said several years on, the local surf club has not seen one cent from the State Government to rebuild a clubhouse.

In a Question On Notice to the Minister for Housing and Public Works submitted during State Parliament today, Mr Bennett challenged the Minister to answer why his government had failed to provide funding towards rebuilding the clubhouse.

Mr Bennett said the community deserved to have a clubhouse they were proud of.

“Over the years there have been so many dedicated volunteers within the community who put their heart and soul into protecting the many tourists and locals who flock to the beach,” he said.

“When you add up all the patrol hours these dedicated individuals put into their club to keep beachgoers safe, it’s a huge level of commitment. The least we can do is provide them with suitable amenities.”

“Sadly, without facilities the club has seen their membership decline, and as a result the capacity to provide lifesaving and community safety services has been impaired.”

The Minister has 30 days to respond to Mr Bennett’s Question on Notice.
