Member for Burnett, Stephen Bennett has welcomed the approval to commence flood mitigation works at Moore Park Beach.

After years of neglect and hollow promises, the LNP Government is able to deliver real and tangible outcomes for the many concerned residents about continual flooding.

In response to record high groundwater levels, above average rainfall and drainage issues in the Moore Park Beach area, Bundaberg Regional Council commissioned a study to evaluate drainage solutions.

The resulting report prepared by Cardno Pty Ltd identified solutions that would improve drainage in the area and which could meet the requirements of current legislation.

The Cardno report was prepared based on detailed hydraulic modelling which had been fully calibrated and verified to data collected during known events. The model has been shown to be robust and has replicated more recent flood events.

The significance of today’s announcement cannot be underestimated. The Moore Park Beach community have gained approval to install larger pipes and flood gates to allow sustainable flood mitigation.

“I acknowledge the Bundaberg Regional Council’s commitment to the project and appreciate the allocation of the budget to allow works to be completed before the next wet season”, Mr Bennett said.
