Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has criticised a decision by the Palaszczuk government to award public servants an extra month’s paid leave in case of a flu pandemic, even if they aren’t sick.
Mr Bennett said the move was ludicrous and would cost taxpayers millions of dollars.
It is believes taxpayers already fork out more than $580 million a year on sick leave for Queensland public servants.
“This absurd policy shows just how completely out of touch this government is with the community,” Mr Bennett said.
“It’s further evidence that this Labor government is beholden to the Unions.
“Public servants are already fortunate to receive some of the best pay and conditions…everyday Queenslanders working in the private sector certainly don’t get the same entitlements to those working in public service.
“When you add this to the $5 billion we now pay extra every year from the additional 22,000 public servants this government employs, are they governing for all Queenslanders as they claim? I don’t think so!”
