Why is the housing minister remaining tight-lipped on where and when new social housing projects will be built in Bundaberg and the Burnett?
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said that’s the question on everyone’s lips following a lackluster response from Minister Scanlon to his Question on Notice. *
“Minister Scanlon was able to boast about five new homes in Cherbourg but failed to answer any questions about homes for the Bundaberg and Burnett electorates,” said Mr Bennett.
“Meanwhile dozens of people are forced to live in limbo in tents and caravans in parks and roadside camps.
“In 2021 we were promised 170 homes for the Wide Bay Burnett region, that’s an area of almost 50,000 km².
“With 1200 people in the Bundaberg Local Government area alone on social housing register applications, I think it’s only fair we know if any of these homes will actually be built here. **
“All we’re asking for is transparency, but the minister’s response raises more questions than answers.
“What are they hiding?
“Queensland has spent the least, per capita, on social housing in Australia.
“The Palaszczuk Government needs to build more than 50 social and affordable homes a week to keep up with demand.
“The chaos and crisis that has engulfed this Labor Government is affecting more Queenslanders every day.”
The LNP has announced a bold plan to ease the Queensland Housing Crisis.
If elected to Government in October 2024, an LNP government will:
- The LNP will have an ambitious and visionary 10-year target to ensure by 2034 Queensland will have the highest percentage of people owning their own home of all the states in the country.
- The LNP will appoint the nation’s first Minister for Home Ownership.
- The LNP will build a new pathway for first homebuyers focusing on three key areas: tax relief, incentives, and land supply.
