A $1million business case into the ageing rolling stock on Queensland’s long distance train services has gone off the rails.
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said the business case is already 9 months late costing commuters, the tourism industry, and taxpayers. *
The Burnett MP tabled a question to the Minister for Transport and Main Roads this morning.
In October 2020, the Government committed $1million to a business case to improve services and replace ageing rolling stock on Queensland’s long distance train services, the Westlander, Inlander and Spirit of the Outback. The business case was due for completion in late 2023. Can the Minister advise when this business case will be completed and how any proposed changes will enhance customer experience and support much-needed regional tourism development?
Mr Bennett said Queenslanders are sick and tired of the delays and excuses.
“Queenslanders are frustrated by the cancelations, delays and unreliability,” he said.
“We have been waiting for this business case for four years but it’s clear the wheels of progress have come off track under the Palaszczuk-Miles Government.
“This is yet another example of more of the chaos and crisis we’ve come to expect from Labor.
“It’s time for change and the LNP has a plan to deliver it.
“Only the LNP will get Queensland moving again by ending Labor’s project blowouts and delays.”
ENDS.
