“Labor’s anti-fishing agenda is destroying Queensland’s commercial fishing industry.
With the continual attacks on the industry, we know that at least 62 per cent of all seafood is imported from overseas.
For years the LNP has been calling on the Palaszczuk-Miles Labor Government to conduct open and transparent discussions with our commercial fishers.
They didn’t listen and now they’ve created a massive level of industry uncertainty and curtailed investment.
When a government makes sweeping changes without consultation, it can have far-reaching effects, including on the mental health of those whose livelihoods are destroyed.
Commercial and recreational fishers deserve to have their voices heard.
The Labor Government is in a constant state of chaos and crisis and because of this they have stopped listening to Queenslanders.
There is clearly a blatant disregard and disrespect for this industry.
We’ve repeatedly called for the Government to be transparent in their data collection and stock assessment processes, which have been called into question by independent experts.
I will continue to fight for transparency and openness on behalf of our local fishermen who are fighting to keep local produce on the table and the industry afloat.”
