The Moore Park Beach community has banded together to support local farmers this Christmas.

The Busy Beach Markets have launched a “Love a Local Farmer” Appeal, encouraging the community to donate cash, non-perishable Christmas foods/goods and unwrapped gifts.

Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said it’s heartwarming to see so many local businesses already get onboard.

“We are very lucky to have such a generous and kind community here in Moore Park Beach,” he said.

“Our farmers are doing it tough; the drought is continuing and Christmas can be a difficult time for many.

“I commend the organisers of the Busy Beach Markets for all their hard work in putting the Love a Farmer Appeal together and ask that we all do what we can to support the appeal and our hard-working farmers.”

Market organisers Carol Jayne and Wendy Paulsen said the goal is to bring joy to a few local farming families on Christmas Day.

“Living in a farming area that is suffering with droughts and fires is so sad,” said Ms Jayne.

“With the extra stress this places on individual’s physical and mental health, the outcomes are sometimes devastating.

“That’s why we launched the Love a Farmer Appeal and we’re hoping locals will get together and show their support this Saturday at the Busy Beach Markets.”

Ms Paulsen said there are a number of fundraising efforts around, but the 4670 area code gets ‘overlooked’.

“We just want to try to hopefully show these families that we really do care,” she said.

“We will have ham wheels and a drop off area for non-perishable Christmas food and goods and unwrapped gifts for all ages.”

There are donation bins at the at the Busy B’z Bakery, MPB Pharmacy, Kids & Co Childcare, The Hub, Fridays Dog Salon, as well as at the MPB Liberty Servo, The Tavern and the IGA.

The Busy Beach Markets will run between 2-6pm on Saturday the 14th of December at the Moore Park Beach Tavern Grounds.
