State Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has today announced life-saving funding for the Moore Park Surf Life Saving Club.

Mr Bennett said after years of campaigning the State Government, the hard work has finally paid off with a funding commitment of $800,000 for a new club house.

“We’re over the moon to share the news with you today,” he said.

“The club and its members have been ignored for almost a decade, so this announcement is simply awesome.”

In 2010 the surf club was irreparably damaged by cyclones?and high tides that caused significant damage resulting in the surf club no longer being able to stay in its current location.

“For years club members have been without a home, but today goes to show that people power really does pay off,” said Mr Bennett.

“The community deserves a club that they can be proud of,  and this funding will help deliver that.
“We are a water loving community and our Surf Life Savers play an integral role in keeping our beachgoers safe.

“There are so many dedicated people who have put their heart and soul into protecting the many tourists and locals who flock to the beach and waterways over the years.

“When you add up all the patrol hours these dedicated individuals put into their club to keep beachgoers safe, it’s a huge level of commitment.
“That’s why we’re so thrilled to be able to make this announcement today.

“This funding, alongside the Federal Government’s previous commitment of $400,000 will breathe life back into the club, giving them a home they have well and truly earned.”
