Over $190,000 has been spread around the Burnett region with local groups and organisations winning big under the latest round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF).

Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said the Pacifique Surfriders Club and the Childers Rifle and Pistol Club will both be using the funds to upgrade their facilities.

“The Pacifique Surfriders Club is making waves in our local community with individuals and businesses jumping on board to lend them a hand,” he said.

“They now have around 100 members and this grant of almost $34,000 will help to give their clubhouse the facelift it deserves.

“During this difficult time, it’s brilliant to see a local club expand and grow, giving our community a place to have fun, relax and take their mind off things for a while.”

Pacifique Surfriders Club President Keith Drinkwater said the community has really stepped up to help.

“With this extra funding and local business sponsorship we can further train juniors and seniors into qualified positions such as Judges and State representation,” he said.

“Most of grant money will be spent on upgrading our Majestic Hall.

“We’ll be painting, redoing wiring, putting in new windows and security screens and upgrading the kitchen and bathroom.

“This grant will also enable us to implement junior development programmes and replace old boards used by our members on competition days at no cost.

“Since we founded in 1963, our club has certainly grown, I spoke to the manager of Surf Life Saving Qld today and he stated that PRC is now in a position that would be the envy of approx 200 clubs Australia wide!”

Mr Bennett said the Pacifique Surfriders Club is one of eight local groups to see funding under round 104 of the GCBF.

“It’s great to see so many local groups receive a helping hand through this fund to further progress our communities.”

The Baffle Creek Boat Club will see almost $30,000 come their way to purchase a tractor while a brand-new shed will be going in for the Bargara Bandits Softball Club.

“Groups such as Pacifique Surfriders Club and the Childers Rifle and Pistol Club play such an important role in our communities and I’m committed to ensuring they are supported as much as possible,” Mr Bennett said.

Round 106 of the GCBF closes on 31 August with grants between $500 and $35,000 up for grabs.
