Burnett not-for-profit organisations and sporting groups have been rewarded in the latest Gambling Community Benefit round with more than $620,000 coming their way.
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said it’s the biggest injection of funds the electorate has seen yet!
“I couldn’t think of a more deserving bunch of organisations and volunteers,” he said.
“Many of these groups and clubs make up the fabric of our communities; it’s no stretch to say we’d be lost without them.
“$100,000 for Bundaberg and District Meals on Wheels will see them start work on a kitchen extension that will allow the organisation to continue their vital work in providing meals to more than 600 vulnerable people across our community.
“Dozens of young music students will benefit from $69,000 going towards the Bundaberg Youth Orchestra for new instruments and equipment.
“While the Woodgate Beach Ambulance Benefit Committee Inc will finally be able to purchase a new vehicle so they can continue lifesaving work in the community.
“These volunteers attend hundreds of responses annually and are a vital initial step in delivering care in an emergency.
“I’m thrilled to have been able to support their application and see it result in a commitment of almost $56,000.”
President of the Woodgate Ambulance Benefit Committee Inc Wendy Gearside said the new vehicle will come just in time.
“Woodgate is a rapidly growing community with new land developments opening up offering the chance for younger families to access the housing market,” she said.
“In a medical emergency, the closest ambulance station is in Childers and it can take more than 30 minutes for paramedics to respond to 000 calls.
“Our First Responders are trained in first aid and can attend to these emergency calls promptly.
“QAS doesn’t provide a vehicle for First Responder groups, and we need to replace our current ageing vehicle, therefore this successful grant is timely and very much appreciated.
“A new vehicle will enable our First Responders to provide first aid assistance to our community and to access difficult areas, which in turn assists our paramedics to provide excellent service.”
