Burnett Year 7 students will have new and upgraded facilities waiting for them as they enter high school in 2015, as a part of the Newman LNP Government’s strong plan to revitalise frontline services.
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said local high schools had been working closely with primary schools to help students and their parents to transition smoothly to high schools.
“I’ve spoken to the local schools and I know they are ready and excited to welcome students and new teachers into the school community next year,” Mr Bennett said.
“The students will benefit from facilities that have been specifically designed to create an inspiring and engaging learning environment.
“It’s the perfect environment for making new friends, learn new subjects and explore new skills to help shape life-long learning.”
Mr Bennett said Isis District State High School in Childers received five classroom refurbishments in readiness for the transition of Year 7 at a total cost of $179,000, with works completed in April last year.
Education Minister Mr Langbroek said the Queensland Government had invested up to $640 million in the Flying Start education reforms – which take in the move of Year 7 to high school.
“This includes up to $328 million to ensure state secondary schools have the appropriate classrooms and facilities to accommodate Year 7 students in 2015,” Mr Langbroek said.
“Our education focus is entirely on the needs of the children and we will continue to work hard to improve their opportunities and outcomes.”
In addition to welcoming Year 7 to high school for the first time, state secondary schools in the Burnett will have finalised preparations to fully implement their Junior Secondary models.
This phase of education focuses specifically on the distinct identity, student wellbeing, and leadership needs of students in Years 7 to 9, while providing a strong and consistent transition between primary and secondary school.
