Local community groups rewarded for caring
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has welcomed a funding boost for local community groups under the Caring for our Community Initiative.
Mr Bennett said the Caring for our Community program, introduced by the former LNP state government, aims to assist community organisations and volunteer groups to purchase essential equipment to meet compliance requirements and continue their support of communities throughout Queensland.
He said six eligible community groups in the Burnett had received a grand total of $28,150 to share, including the Bundaberg Surf Life Saving Club.
“It’s great to see these truly deserving local groups recognised for the work they do in the community,” Mr Bennett said.
“I’m absolutely delighted to congratulate the Bundaberg Surf Life Saving Club on being awarded $5,000, which they will use to upgrade their kitchen facilities as part of their clubhouse renovations.
“The Bundaberg Surf Life Saving Club has been a long-standing part of the Bargara community for over 90 years, ensuring safe swimming, as well as nurturing a thriving nipper’s cohort.
“It’s a great club that gives back to the community.”
Bundaberg Surf Life Saving Club president Lynda Cremer said she was thrilled to hear they would be receiving the one-off funds.
She said the club would upgrade the kitchen facilities, including the installation of a stainless steel bench and new sink, which she said would make life easier for volunteers working in the canteen.
“The second-hand kitchen was installed about 12 years ago.
“We are fortunate to receive another grant from the state government and we are really pleased to be able to do that for our members.
“It’s wonderful to be able to support the volunteers.”
Mr Bennett said he was also pleased to see Volunteer Marine Rescue Bundaberg will receive $3,600 from the initiative.
“Congratulations to Volunteer Marine Rescue Bundaberg. They will be using the funds to purchase a much-needed defibrillator.”
