Queensland businesses will have the first opportunity to supply equipment for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games™ (GC2018), providing another boost for jobs and the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Gameseconomy.

The Forward Procurement Plan has been released at the first information session held on the Gold Coast today.

This is the first time a whole-of-Games approach has been adopted for Commonwealth Games procurement activity.

From 5,000 table tennis balls to 50,000 metres of temporary fencing, this wide range of anticipated procurement needs represents a huge amount of possibilities for many different industries.

The Queensland Government and the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) have developed a procurement framework for GC2018 to maximise business opportunities at the local, regional and state level.

Everyone from small family businesses to larger operations will have an opportunity to be involved.

The one-stop shop for GC2018 related business opportunities is aimed at giving businesses the best chance possible of becoming a Games supplier, and is part of our strong plan for a brighter future.

The business and industry portal at www.business.qld.gov.au/commonwealth-games details:

  • the Forward Procurement Plan and Schedule for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games™
  • links to the Industry Capability Network (ICN) Queensland Gateway to register and express your interest in the relevant categories
  • links to Queensland Government QTenders to obtain a logon for tender opportunities
  • tools, tips and training to help develop and submit tenders

The Queensland Government’s approach to procurement for GC2018 presents a fantastic opportunity for local businesses.

We want to make sure tendering for government jobs is as straightforward as possible.

We have put ourselves in our suppliers’ shoes and are cutting red tape by getting rid of multiple tender application forms, setting up one-point of access for businesses, and making the tender process more open and transparent.
