Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has welcomed news that construction of the former LNP Government’s fire station in Bundaberg will commence shortly.
Mr Bennett said the new state-of-the-art fire station was part of the former LNP government’s commitment to improve frontline services and was initially announced in the 2014-15 budget.
“I’m delighted that after some 14 months of the Labor Government being frozen at the wheel, this LNP project will now become a reality,” Mr Bennett said.
“While in government we worked hard to deliver improved fire and emergency services equipment, station upgrades and deliver new vehicles right across the state, and Bundaberg was particularly high on our agenda to build better services.
“The new $6.5 million state-of-the-art fire station is great news for our community and the improved facility will meet the future growth needs of Bundaberg.
“It’s something that our local firefighters have been campaigning for, and I’m sure they will be relieved to hear it’s going ahead.”
Mr Bennett said he hoped local builders and suppliers would be involved in the construction of the fire station.
“Considering Bundaberg’s economic climate, I hope local builders and suppliers get a real unique opportunity to be able to tender and construct what should be a local project,” he said.
“Construction projects of this magnitude would equate to hundreds of jobs.”
