The Discovery Christian College is well on its way to commencing in January next year, following a state government funding allocation of just over $2.2 million.
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett welcomed the latest funding announcement, which he said was a big win for the discovery coast community.
Mr Bennett said the funds would go towards four capital works projects, including the construction of a range of temporary classrooms which would become future classrooms, including two primary classrooms, science laboratory, art room, home economics room and a library and resource centre.
“The funds will also go towards completing other important projects for the college, including covered walkways, verandas, furniture, amenities, a carpark and more,” he said.
“With these funds, the Discovery Christian College will be able to progress even further and offer students a quality educational facility for primary and secondary students by January next year.
“It’s a really exciting time for the community, and the new college will give parents possible education alternatives in the district.
“During the election campaign, it was loud and clear that the number one issue was education. I’m proud to be a part of a strong government which is delivering on key election promises, and this is certainly one of those promises which we’ve not only been able to keep, but go above community expectations.”
Mr Bennett congratulated the community for the role they played in getting the project off the ground.
“Credit must go to this determined community for continuing to lobby and work with state government and private providers to make this project a reality,” he said.
Mr Bennett said he was looking forward to the new college opening.
