Housing Minister Mick de Brenni’s $100 million announcement in government-led housing construction is another example of tried, tested and failed policy of past Labor Governments, the LNP Opposition said today.
Shadow Housing Minister Stephen Bennett said Labor had form for making public housing only about bricks and mortar, while ignoring the wrap-around services that helped those in need of it.
“Labor has completely missed the mark when it comes to delivering public housing that works,” Mr Bennett said.
“They haven’t outlined any plan to deliver the services that must go hand in hand with public housing – things like immigration support, disability services and training and development.
“Without these services, Queenslanders will be left with a $100 million bill for a failed scheme.
“Labor should be leveraging the private sector, including developers and not-for-profit organisations, so Queenslanders get public housing that works, but we’re left with a project destined for failure.
“This is typical Palaszczuk Labor Government policy on the run, with no consultation and no thought for Queensland taxpayers who will foot the bill.”
Mr Bennett said it was rich of Mick de Brenni to spruik the policy, just weeks after scrapping the Logan Renewal Initiative and leave thousands of residents without roofs over their head.
“Mick de Brenni’s announcement is a betrayal to those Logan residents left high and dry without any kind of alternative plan for their future.”
