Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has rubbished the State Labor Government for failing to meet their own environmental targets.
It follows the release of the overdue Waste Strategy Review that reveals Queensland is only on track to reach two out of nine targets.
Mr Bennett said recycling rates have gone backwards.
“The tax grabbing waste levy was introduced back in 2019 and has cost local businesses and households dearly,” he said.
“But it gets worse, since it was introduced more household waste has been going into landfill now than ever before.
“Recycling rates have always gone backwards in the half a decade since 2018 from 31% to 27%.
“We know that when given the opportunity, Bundaberg and Burnett residents want to do the right thing and recycle.
“I helped to create the policy that formed the Containers for Change program which has seen great results in the Wide Bay.
“Our region’s returned over 494 million containers since the launch of the scheme in November 2018!
“Sadly, this is where good policy stops.
“It’s clear the Palaszczuk Labor Government has failed to communicate why and how to reduce our impact and as a result they are failing in almost every measure.
“The waste levy has generated almost one billion dollars in revenue, but the Palaszczuk Labor Government has got nothing to show for it.”
