The member for Maryborough should be ashamed of his Palaszczuk Government’s hypocritical actions towards Queensland’s agriculture industry, according to Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett.
Mr Bennett said the Palaszczuk Government had been dragging the chain on the local Maryborough sugar industry’s expansion plans which would never have occurred had Labor managed to get its extreme vegetation management laws through parliament.
He said Maryborough’s Labor MP had supported the Palaszczuk Government’s anti-agriculture vegetation management legislation yet was one of the first to line up and promote the proposed expansion of sugar cane production, claiming that the project aligned with his government’s agenda.
“One week ago the member for Maryborough voted for Labor’s aggressive vegetation management laws, and yet here he is this week with the State Development Minister proudly claiming to support agriculture,” Mr Bennett said.
“The member for Maryborough is squawking about the 130 jobs the proposal will create in the region, but just last week he was down in Brisbane voting to prevent projects like this one from going ahead.
“Labor’s local MP’s for Maryborough and Bundaberg should be embarrassed about the way they have treated our farmers, and now they are claiming to help the very industry they tried to shut down.
“The attempt by their Labor Government to create an appearance of economic activity in Queensland’s regions is clearly a desperate cover up of the failure of their policies to instill confidence in business and industry.”
