LNP Shadow Minister for State Development Andrew Powell has slammed the Palaszczuk Labor Government for failing to make any headway on the Bundaberg State Development Area.
Mr Powell said two years have passed since the Palaszczuk Labor Government announced a State Development Area and still nothing has happened.*
“Annastacia Palaszczuk is all talk and no action when it comes to delivering projects and creating jobs in the Bundaberg region,” Mr Powell said.
“The Bundaberg State Development Area would create more jobs and that’s what the region desperately needs.
“The Wide Bay region is struggling with an unemployment rate of 8.2% and Annastacia Palaszczuk should be prioritising industrial growth.
“After all the fanfare and media announcements from the Palaszczuk Labor Government two years ago, nothing has been delivered for the region.
“As soon as the cameras stop rolling, Annastacia Palaszczuk stops caring.
“Labor promised the area to become an ‘economic growth hotspot’ for Bundaberg but that is just another broken promise.”
Burnett MP Stephen Bennett said the region’s staggering unemployment rate could be reduced if Annastacia Palaszczuk prioritised industrial growth in the Bundaberg region.
“Ten thousand Wide Bay residents are unemployed and the community is crying out for action,” Mr Bennett said.
“Sadly, the only thing people in Bundaberg get from the Palaszczuk Labor Government is empty promises.
“Labor knows the existing road network cannot support future development yet they have done nothing to determine what upgrades are required or even developed a timeline for the upgrades.”
Assistant Shadow Minister for State Development and Bundaberg MP David Batt said the Palaszczuk Labor Government needed to take action immediately.
“After questioning in parliament last year, the Palaszczuk Labor Government promised a solar farm was being developed,” Mr Batt said.**
“Looking around today, there’s certainly no work going ahead on a solar farm.
“A State Development Area is a priority to the region as it will provide opportunities for industry to grow.
“It’s high time Annastacia Palaszczuk came to Bundaberg and delivered on her promises.
“Annastacia Palaszczuk needs to prove there’s a first time for everything and actually deliver this project.”
