Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has welcomed the Palaszczuk Labor Government’s backflip on real-time fuel price monitoring after months of campaigning by the LNP and motoring groups.

Mr Bennett said while Labor dragged the chain on introducing real-time fuel price monitoring, the adoption of the LNP’s policy was good news for the region’s motorists.

“I’m pleased that the government has finally listened to motorists and will adopt real-time fuel price monitoring,” he said.

Real-time fuel price monitoring works by making it law for fuel companies to publish daily prices, allowing motorists to vote with their feet and support the servos that offer the cheapest fuel.

“We are being ripped off at the bowser on a daily basis and this simple system will increase competition and cut petrol prices for the region’s motorists,” he said.

“Queenslanders are struggling with their household budgets and high fuel prices are yet another hit to the hip pocket.

“Real time fuel price monitoring is a common-sense solution that has worked in New South Wales and is backed by the RACQ and NRMA.”
