Local Kepnock State High School teacher one of 24 to win Doherty Award for Excellence in Science and Science Education

I would like to congratulate local Kepnock High School teacher, Margaret Sharpe for receiving a Peter Doherty Teacher of Science Award. The awards were announced today by the Hon. John-Paul Langbroek, Minister for Education, Training and Employment. Ms Sharpe is amongst twenty four of Queensland’s best science educators, students and organisation that received a Doherty Award for Excellence in Science and Science Education.

The awards were introduced in 2004 and are named after leading Queensland scientist and Nobel laureate Peter Doherty, a former Indooroopilly State High student. The Peter Doherty Awards recognise outstanding and innovative contributions to science education.

There are some remarkable things being achieved by Queensland’s science education community and I am amazed by the level of talent and dedication within our local schools and organisations.

I congratulate all of this year’s winners who will share $98,000 in prize money to be spent furthering their studies or on professional development.
