Bundaberg’s Burnett Heads Boat Harbour has been officially named under the Queensland Government’s Place Names Act, formalising the title long used by the local boating and fishing community.

Member for Burnett, Stephen Bennett, said the proposal had been put forward earlier this year by Maritime Safety Queensland.

“The Burnett Head Boat Harbour name has been used for many years by the local community and is shown on most navigational charts, but had never officially been recognised on the Department of Natural Resources and Mines Place Names database,” Mr Bennett said.

“The proposal to formally name the harbour has received significant public approval.

“Support was also received from Bundaberg Regional Council, the Maryborough, Wide Bay and Burnett Historical Society, and the Burnett Heads Progress Association.

“The Burnett Heads Boat Harbour is used by fishing charters, volunteer marine rescue, and professional and recreational fishermen.

“The harbour is located off Harbour Esplanade at Burnett Heads and is home to the Burnett Heads Marina.”
