Burnett motorists will have a safer journey home to their families thanks to a vital safety upgrade now underway along the Isis Highway.
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said the project was a win for local families and industry who rely on a safe link six kilometres south-west of Childers.
“Only the LNP Government has a strong team with a strong plan to build the roads Queensland families need,” Mr Bennett said.
“The works involve minor shoulder widening, culvert modifications and improved warning signage over a four-kilometre stretch of the highway.
“Teams have started clearing vegetation to increase the roadside clear zone at various locations to allow straying vehicles the opportunity to recover without causing significant damage to either the vehicle or its occupants.
“Safety barriers will also be installed at various locations and will incorporate railings to prevent motorcyclists from sliding underneath or into the steel posts of fixed barriers if they fall off their bikes.”
Mr Bennett said works would mostly be carried out between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
“Motorists should expect reduced speed limits and traffic controllers while the work is underway,” he said.
“I thank the community for their patience while we work hard to deliver a safer Isis Highway.”
Works are expected to be completed by mid-2015.
The project is being funded under the Safer Roads Sooner program, which delivers high benefit, cost effective, road engineering treatments that address known high risk crash hot spots on our network
