Planning to repair the Isis Highway between Hendricksens and Hapsburgs roads at Cordalba has been finalised and work will begin early next year.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson and Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said the Newman Government had budgeted for $8.76 million as part of the $6.4 billion budget commitment to deliver better infrastructure and planning across Queensland.
“The Isis highway has been significantly affected by flooding and natural disasters in recent years,” Mr Emerson said.
“Driving into Bundaberg on the highway today confirmed what local members have been saying about the importance of this stretch of road for residents, freight and local industry.
“The LNP is committed to planning and delivering a road network that is safe, reliable and efficient and these works will ensure people and goods get to where they need to go safely.”
Mr Bennett welcomed the investment in this vital stretch of highway.
“These works will make a real difference to improving the link from the cattle-farming districts of the North Burnett to the sugar-producing Bundaberg and Fraser Coast region.
“Over the next four years there is more than $20 million committed to improving the Isis Highway.
The works will be delivered under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA), a joint federal and state initiative and other state funding.
The works include:
- highway realignment to achieve a wider road
- changing the road to improve visibility at the crests and intersections
- intersection improvements including:
- Hendricksens and Knockroe roads – a dedicated right-turn lane and an improved alignment when turning into and out of these roads to the Highway
- Claytons Road – dedicated right and left-turn lanes
- Hapsburg Road – widening of the intersection to improve turning into and out of this road from the Isis Highway
- building an overpass across the existing cane railway crossing
- relocating existing power poles and other services
