Childers residents would have access to a new state-of-the-art hydrotherapy pool under a re-elected Newman LNP Government, as part of its ongoing pledge to revitalise frontline health services in regional Queensland.

Health Minister Lawrence Springborg joined Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett in Childers today to announce a $300,000 hydrotherapy pool would be built at the Isis War Memorial Pool.

“The hydrotherapy pool would be a wonderful asset for the Childers community, to help people recover from physical and neurological injuries,” Mr Springborg said.

“Hydrotherapy pools are usually heated to approximately 34 degrees, are kept at a constant water level and can include ramps, bars and ledges to allow people to perform rehabilitation exercises in a comfortable environment.

“This commitment is another example of the Newman LNP Government’s strong plan to reinvest in the frontline health services that Queenslanders deserve, not the waste and chaos experienced under Labor.”

Local MP Stephen Bennett said it was important the Isis community had access to first class facilities, and the new pool would mean patients no longer had to travel to Bundaberg for hydrotherapy treatment.

“Childers and the surrounding district is typically an aging population. This facility would ensure patients can access the rehabilitation services they require without having to travel far,” he said.

“Hydrotherapy pools are lauded by health care professionals as being a proven form of rehabilitation for not only the elderly, but those with a disability and injured patients.

“I’m very pleased to be making this announcement today, and thank the Health Minister for listening to the needs of the Childers community.”

Local GPs Dr Cindi Jackson and Dr Ian Holthouse have advocated for a hydrotherapy pool and welcomed the funding announcement.
